Marlins beat Rockies on 2-run HR in 9th (AP)

A’s OF Sweeney to miss rest of season (AP)

Oakland Athletics outfielder Ryan Sweeney will miss the rest of the season to undergo surgery on his injured right knee. Sweeney was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with right patella tendinitis. Noted surgeon Dr. Richard Steadman of Vail, Colo., will perform the operation as soon as possible.

Inge out 4-6 weeks with broken hand (AP)

Detroit Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge left Monday night’s game against Texas after having his left hand broken by a pitch from Scott Feldman in the third inning. Inge stayed in the game after being examined by Detroit’s training staff, but was replaced in the field by Don Kelly for the top of the fifth.

Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau will likely miss at least another week’s worth of games while he recovers from a concussion. The Oakland Athletics have placed outfielder Ryan Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list with an injured right knee. The team recalled right-hander Henry Rodriguez to take Sweeney’s spot on the roster before Monday night’s game against Boston. Sweeney has right patella tendinitis and is eligible to come off the disabled list on July 27.

Helton near return, Tulowitzki to rehab (AP)

Troy Tulowitzki will begin a rehabilitation assignment Wednesday, and the Colorado Rockies hope to activate the shortstop after he spends a week in the minor leagues. Manager Jim Tracy outlined a timetable Monday for Tulowitzki and also said first baseman Todd Helton may be activated from the disabled list as early as Tuesday.
