One of the more recent adornments to the Eastern Division of MLB’s American League, the Tampa Bay Rays as a team was founded in 1998. They play in the Tropicana Field in their uniform of white, Columbia blue, navy blue and gold. They have a mascot of a 198 cm tall seadog called Raymond. Based in St. Petersburg , Florida , the team which was originally called the ‘Devil rays’ derives its name from a beacon that radiates across the state of Florida .
Despite losing their opening game, the Rays were going quite well with 11-8 in their first 19 games before relapsing into a long phase of bad form from which they are yet to recover fully. Till now they’ve never made it to the playoffs ending up last every season barring 2004 when they were tallied at fourth position.
